MSU expands military education access through partnership with Keesler Air Force Base

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥樱花导航 樱花导航 University has signed an Educational Partnership Agreement with Keesler Air Force Base, paving the way for a Bachelor of Applied Science in Weather and Environment鈥撯揳n MSU Department of Geosciences program that will provide Keesler Air Force members a streamlined pathway to complete a four-year degree.

Approved by the 樱花导航 Board of Trustees of 樱花导航 Institutions of Higher Learning聽in May, the proposed BAS degree program will enable airmen to transfer technical training in weather-related fields directly for college credit, accelerating their progress toward a bachelor鈥檚 degree. The program is designed to build on the military鈥檚 rigorous meteorological instruction by integrating applied science coursework and real-world environmental applications.

鈥淭his partnership reflects MSU鈥檚 longstanding commitment to supporting our nation鈥檚 military and enhancing educational access for service members,鈥 said John Rodgers, geosciences professor and department head. 鈥淏y aligning the strengths of Keesler鈥檚 training programs with MSU鈥檚 academic resources, we are creating a meaningful opportunity for airmen to advance both their military and civilian careers.鈥

Located in Biloxi, Keesler Air Force Base is home to the 81st Training Wing and serves as a key site for technical training in the U.S. Air Force, particularly in the meteorology, communications and electronics fields. The base is recognized nationally for its advanced instruction in weather forecasting and environmental monitoring鈥攕kills that directly align with the proposed BAS degree鈥檚 objectives.

The agreement between MSU and Keesler strengthens both institutions鈥 shared goal of fostering innovation and professional development through accessible, high-quality education.

MSU repeatedly has been recognized as one of the nation鈥檚 foremost Military Friendly universities, with a聽Top 5 Military Friendly School designation聽this year.
